Your game's page
Every game gets its own page. This is where you tell people what it is — and where they get the code.
When your game is in the Library, it has a page of its own at mebobox.com/games/YOURCODE. It shows your cover art, your game code in big letters, and whatever you write here.
You edit it from the Creator Hub: press the pencil on your game, then Update Library page.
Short description
One sentence, at the top of the page beside your game code — and the one a player sees on their mebobox when they enter the code.
Say what you do in the game. That is what people read before anything else, and it is usually all they read before deciding.
Race rockets across five worlds. Two players, one screen, and absolutely no brakes.
Not "an exciting adventure game". Every game says that. Say the thing yours actually does.
About this game
The longer part, underneath. This is where you have room to explain.
Worth writing, roughly in this order:
- What you do. The actions — jump, race, collect, dodge. Start here.
- What makes it yours. The one thing your game has that others do not.
- What is in it. Levels, modes, characters, how many players.
- How to play it. Anything a player would be stuck without.
Short beats long. People skim a game page before they decide, so put the best thing first.
Making it look nice
The About box uses Markdown, which is a way of writing formatting as plain text. The buttons above the box add it for you, or you can type it yourself:
# A big heading
## A smaller heading
**bold words** and *italic words*
- a bullet
- another bullet
Headings, bold, italic and bullets are the whole list. Nothing else is used — so your page always looks like the rest of the site, and it can never come out broken.
As you type, the box underneath shows exactly how your page will look. It is not an impression of it; it is the same thing the page uses.
Screenshots
Up to ten, in whatever order you arrange them. Drag them to move them about.
Your cover art is always first. That is what the page opens on, so the first thing anybody sees is the same picture their mebobox shows them. You change your cover under Just the details, not here.
A good screenshot:
- Shows the game being played — not the title screen, not a menu.
- Shows something different each time. Another level, another character, both players.
- Earns the first slot. Plenty of people will only ever look at one.
Three good ones beat ten that all look the same.
Each screenshot can have a short description of what is in it. That is for players who cannot see the picture, and it is worth thirty seconds.
Videos
Optional, and genuinely optional — a game with good screenshots and no video is a perfectly finished page.
If you do add one (up to two YouTube links):
- Show the game moving in the first few seconds. That is all most people watch.
- Gameplay, not a logo. A title card at the front loses them before it starts.
- No video is better than a dull one.
Nothing is loaded from YouTube until somebody actually presses play, so a video costs your page nothing until it is wanted.
